Mystery of Shark Island Review - by Valli S.
I chose to play this game in the arcade mode. Mystery of Shark Island seems easy enough to play at first. You have to pick up various objects from the beach before the next wave rolls in. However, it was not as easy as it first seemed. The objects were rather small and difficult to pick out.
The music to this computer game is slow and kind of eerie sounding. It almost has a mysterious tone to it. Flutes and triangles can be heard in the background. The lapping of the waves against the seashore is very realistic. It made me feel that I was back home at the beach. I gave this category a raging of 8.
SOUND & MUSIC: 8
There are two modes to Mystery of Shark Island—a story mode and an arcade mode. I first began to play this game in the arcade mode. Since I had very little time to play, I switched to the story mode to see if I could make any more headway. For some reason, I did much better in the story mode. I was finding the objects right away. As you progress farther into the game, more objects are washed up onto the shore and I found that it was harder to find the hidden objects. I gave this category a possible 8 out of 10 points.
GAMEPLAY: 8
I felt that the graphics were awfully small, and due to the color of some of the graphics they were almost impossible to see. The water lapping on the beach was definitely in 3-D mode and was very realistic looking. I gave this category of a rating of 7.

I felt that I was on the beach searching for hidden shells! This game made me feel that I was barefoot on the beach and that the water was breaking over my feet. Since I am not too good at picking out hidden objects from a variety of objects all around, I was pleasantly surprised by this game. I actually felt a sense of accomplishment as I passed from one level to the next. I gave this category a high score of 9!
FUN: 9
Final conclusion:
I think that Mystery of Shark Island would be suited for children and adults alike. If you like the Where’s Waldo books, then you would enjoy this game. If you are a beachcomber and are familiar with shells, this game would be a snap for you.
