Grimm's Hatchery Review - by Valli S.
This is another game produced by Amaranth Games. It is set back in the medieval days of long ago. My first impression of this game is that there are too many things to do at one time. You have to raise pets, fend off monsters from eating your pets, sell your eggs and talk to villagers. I would strongly recommend that you NOT skip the tutorial that this game has to offer. It will definitely help you play the actual game.
The music certainly has a medieval theme. It is lighthearted and airy with its recorders and flutes playing throughout. There is the sound of gunfire when you try to protect your pets from monsters. There are other sound effects such as a cash register which does not really fit the time period. There are also the sounds of coins jiggling when you make a sale. I rated this category a 7 out of a possible 10 points.
SOUND & MUSIC: 7
In order to get your share of the inheritance, you have to earn 300,000 gold pieces in 80 days. One of the quests is to try to locate a goose that will lay a golden egg. You also have to spend money in order to feed your pets. It is certainly a challenge to raise all of that money in just 80 days. I gave this category a rating of 6 out of 10 points.
GAMEPLAY: 6
The graphics are very realistic and go along with a medieval village. The villagers are dressed in true medieval garb. I do not think that the goose was that realistic looking and I could not make out with the other pets were. The pets were running around the yard in true 3-D fashion. I gave this category is rating of 7 out of 10 possible points.

This game was not that much fun for me to play. I seemed to have difficulty raising money. It seems that I no longer sold my eggs to the villagers than I had to lay out more money in food for my pets. I also had a hard time killing the monsters that ate up my pets. I would click my mouse right over the monster but it would not die. Hence my pets always got eaten, and consequently I would have to shell out more money to buy more pets. Sometimes my pets would disappear on me without a monster eating them and this befuddled me. Therefore, I only gave this category a rating of 5 out of a possible 10 points.
FUN: 5
Final conclusion:
I would recommend this game for people who have very good motor coordination. I would also recommend this game for those people who have a business sense about them. I am not sure that very young children would be able to figure out the gist of the game. They would probably not be able to earn the necessary 300,000 gold coins needed to win the game.
