Monarch: The Butterfly King Review - by Valli S.
An evil wizard has kidnapped the butterflies and taken most of the Butterfly King's magic. This is a matching computer game in which you have to make at least three matches of the same kind of flower. Metal plates hide ancient energies that the Butterfly King’s Orb of Power will convert to magic to free the butterflies. Clearing the metal plates is how you finish a level.
When the game first begins, the music sounds like that of medieval times. Then when you begin making matches it changes to a rather slow and almost hypnotic type of music. There are tiny explosions when only three matches in a row are made. There are much larger explosions when a lot of matches are made. On a scale of 1- 10, I gave this category a rating of 7.
SOUND & MUSIC: 7
There is a mouse party mode where more than one player can play the game. There is also a relaxed mode and an active mode. The first level is the Butterfly Kingdom. It is your job to discover and rescue all 16 exotic and beautiful butterflies from the clutches of the evil wizard. There are 100 levels of excitement. You can make your own potions by matching five or more of the same piece. Swap the potion with any flower next to it to blow it up. By simply double-clicking a potion you will cause it to blow up with a smaller explosion so always swap it with any non-locked piece for maximum effect. The flower popper icon removes a flower from the board. From level 5 on, you have a limited amount of time to get rid of all of the boxes. You may exchange a life for three extra minutes of playing time. On a scale of 1-10, I gave this category a rating of 8.
GAMEPLAY: 8
In this game there are butterflies, different colored flowers, and Monarch the Butterfly King who goes flying past when a level is completed. On a scale of 1-10, I gave this category a rating of 6.
GRAPHICS: 6
This is a matching game where you have to match at least three of each kind of flower. I was all right until I got to the fifth level where you were only allotted a certain amount of time. Then I began to get frustrated because I could not make the matches fast enough. On a scale of 1-10, I gave this category a rating of 7.
FUN: 7
Final conclusion:
I would recommend this game for anyone who likes matching games. For younger children, they could make matches by color as it would help to reinforce color recognition skills.
